Baccarat Variations
Like all other card games, casinos change and modify some card games to address the playability of the game. Baccarat, even if it is one of the simplest card games, is also not spared from this.
Here's a rundown of the Baccarat variations from all over the world: The European Baccarat is like the normal Baccarat game, only that the player has the option whether he draws or stands at a total of five and the banker can now opt to draw for a third card. To win, one still has to achieve a score close or equal to nine.
Remember that in Baccarat, only two cards are dealt and a third card at the option of the player. In an ordinary Baccarat game, bankers can only draw a third card under certain rules, like if he has a total less than two. But in European Bacarrat, players and bankers have equal rights on third cards. This makes the game play more exciting.
Chemin de Fer (railroad in English) is a variety of baccarat found in French Casinos. The goal is still to get a total score of nine or at least come close to it as possible. The difference is that the casino may or may not be the banker and that they rotate among the players.
Unlike in American Baccarat where the bankers usually are the casino, this type of Baccarat is different. Players bet against themselves. Bankers' play can be declined and the next player deals, making the counter clockwise move on the table like a train.
Dealers in this type of game join mainly to ensure that the rules of Baccarat are observed. They simply provide the necessary equipment. The catch in this form of Baccarat is that the dealer rakes in 4-5% of the total winnings. In this Baccarat game, the role of bankers is optional.
Another variation of the Bacarrat is the the Mini baccarat. Mini Baccarat is basically like the American Baccarat. The main difference is that the game is more open to professional and chronic gamblers who just do not care of how much they lose anymore. In this specific Baccarat game, the rules of the normal baccarat are adapted. Third card draws strictly apply and the rotation of dealing cards are observed.
The dealer is always the bank (unlike in other Baccarat games where the player may sometimes act as the Banco), and the bets are kept at a minimum. Mini-Baccarat is usually played on a table like that used in Blackjack.
